DESIGN
David Mayernik's work as an architect extends from urban design and campus planning to buildings and interiors; he is also known for his theoretical projects that demonstrate our capacity to equal the best of our heritage, even if our building culture does not yet allow the opportunities to realize our aspirations.
Two essential characteristics distinguish his approach to design: the role of buildings as definers of space, and the idea of the classical language as a rhetoric, a way of being articulate. The former means his master plans are informed by a prescient understanding of the buildings that will comprise them, and his buildings always take account of their role in a larger context. The latter means his architecture, which often integrates the figurartive arts, creates meaningful and memorable places.
