To be a classical artist is not the same as being a classical realist. The classicist embraces what Renaissance theorists called "the Idea of the Beautiful," and this idea or ideal is the filter through which the artist both draws on nature and invents the figure, landscapes, etc. For more information about the classical Idea of the Beautiful see " The Idea of the Beautiful and the Art of Drawing " at the Rome Drawing Academy site (romedrawing.org).
David Mayernik's work in watercolor can be seen on the website of American Artist magazine .

David Mayernik is a master draftsman who works within the classical humanist tradition, with subjects that range from field sketches in sanguine pencil and watercolor to finished watercolor washes. His drawings are often preparatory to paintings in oil on canvas and watercolor, in addition to in situ work in fresco; he especially appreciates the challenges that commissioned work brings. Please contact David Mayernik Ltd. at info@davidmayernik.com if you are interested in purchasing a particular drawing or would like to commission a new work.
