Still Life

While David Mayerni's primary focus is narrative painting in the Old Master tradition, he is an adept practitioner of portraiture, still life, and plein air work. His portraiture draws on the Old Master tradition for iconography and the rhetoric of pose and gaze. This gives his portratis a timeless, transcendant quality. In still life he plays with the the buondaries between the fictive and the real, turning a simple composition into a meditation on the artistic act--as did the great still life painters of the past.
